General Meeting 2020 - CANCELLED

The next General Meeting of the SPP 1833 “Building a Habitable Earth” was scheduled for April 1-3, 2020, at the University of Tübingen. Due to the restrictions we all have to face at the moment because of the Corona-Virus, we have to cancel our General Meeting in April. Assuming that the conditions will change within the next months, we plan to hold our meeting in Tübingen in October (7-9, 2020).  We will send around a new call for registration in July.

Prof. Bertus Smith on an SPP 1833 funded trip to different German SPP researchers

From November 27th to December 11th, Prof. Bertus Smith from the University of Johannesburg visited several German research groups involved in Early Earth research, funded by the SPP 1833. Bertus Smith is a specialist for Economic Geology with a focus on sedimentary iron and manganese deposits. His research interests include Archaean and Palaeoproterozoic sedimentary successions.

During his stay in Germany, he visited the FU Berlin, the Jacobs University Bremen and the University of Cologne. His talks on “South Africa's Archean and Paleoproterozoic chemical sedimentary successions: implications for paleoenvironments and life on early Earth” were well attended. Furthermore, several researchers at Berlin, Bremen and Cologne used the opportunity of his stay in Germany to initiate future projects and research collaborations.

Bertus Smith’s visit was funded by the coordination project of the SPP 1833, providing invited international scientists the possibility for networking with the German community.
